Bipap non invasive ventilation

Noninvasive ventilation is a form of assistance for people who are not sick enough to have to be hooked up to a large mechanical ventilator to help them breathe, but are too sick to breathe well on their own, Dr. Talmor said. This is accomplished without the use of a tube inserted down the throat (intubation). A form of noninvasive ventilation is called non invasive bipap, for bilevel positive airway pressure.

The man in the photo above, with the noninvasive mask on, for example, is being taught how to use a noninvasive ventilator so that he gets help breathing in, because he was finding it too difficult to do it on his own. It uses a mask that fits over the nose, or nose and mouth, to help push air into the lungs. It can help a person breathe and make it easier for him or her to get the oxygen he or she needs.

The Benefits of Bipap Non-Invasive Ventilation for Respiratory Suppor

There are several benefits of Bipap NIV in these patients. It might improve blood oxygen levels, ease the work of breathing and lessen shortness of breath. That can make them a little more comfortable and allow them to do more without getting tired.”
